Khan is a 10 time Grammy Award Winner whose career has lasted for more than 40 years. She was born into a bohemian and creative family living in Chicago, Illinois. She is the eldest of five children born to Beatniks Charles Stevens (and Sandra Coleman). Khan was a huge fan of music and rhythm from the age of. At the age of 11, she formed the girl group The Crystalettes. Khan was a teenager who was a frequent attendee at protests for civil rights. She was a member of the Black Panther Party in 1967 after becoming close to Fred Hampton, a Chicago native. The late Yoruba Baba named her Chaka Adunne Hodarhi Karifi at the age of she was just 13 years old. Khan left the Black Panthers in 1969 and quit high school in 1969. Khan began to perform in small groups throughout the Chicago region. They scored more than eight platinum records throughout the rest of the decade. Khan's strong vocals and vibrant stage attire made the group an extremely popular live act.
